Oris Watches
Founded in 1904, this Swiss luxury manufacturer of mechanical watches is based in Hölstein. The brand was named after a brook located close to the initial factory. Oris watches are distinguished by their trademark red motor, introduced in 2002. Over a century of expertise makes this brand renowned globally.
Oris is known for their diverse collection of Oris watches for Men and Women. Their signature compilation is the Pointer Calendar, where 31 days are displayed along the inner dial with a pointer showing the date.
They introduced the Big Crown watch for pilots in 1938. The oversized crown helped pilots to adjust their watches while wearing leather gloves.
In the 1940’s they launched alarm clocks. 1952 saw the first automatic movement when Oris launched its first automatic wrist watch for men and women – The caliber 601.
In the late 1990’s Oris introduced a watch in partnership with saxophonist Andy Sheppard. This marked the beginning of a series of jazz watches. In the following years, Oris introduced watches with other renowned jazz artists like Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker and more.
Around the same time Oris launched the WorldTimer, Caliber 690, which allowed users to adjust the time in one-hour leaps forward or backward, with pushers on the sides. The world Timer series continued with the next one being the BC4 Flight Timer, which tells the time in three time zones.
In 2006, Oris introduced a watch with the name of freediver Carlos Coste, known as the Carlos Coste Limited Edition Chronograph. This watch came to be known as the first watch in Oris’s Divers collection.
In the diver’s collection the next one was very popular, the Aquis Depth Gauge. A unique concept that picked up very fast, this was the first time a gauge was used in a wristwatch. Oris holds a patent for this. The gauge was used to indicate the depth by means of a circular channel surrounding the dial.
Recently, in 2015, Oris re-released the first version of the popular Diver Sixty-Five, a modern updated version of the classic Oris dive watch released 50 years ago.
Through decades Oris has been innovating based on their areas of interest, evolving to four major watch collections for men and women – Diving, Aviation, Culture and Motor sports. Popular Oris watches include Oris Aquis, Oris AquisPro, Oris Divers series, Oris Pro Diver, Oris Big Crown, Oris Big Crown ProPilot, Oris Artelier, Oris Classic, Oris Chronoris, and more.
